I’ve decided to bite the bullet this year and participate in the Savvy Author’s edition of Nation Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo) and a special event involving Entangled Publishing. I’ve even decided to do something slightly different from what normally do, and write a romantic suspense based on an idea I have.
For those of you who don’t know what NaNo is, it’s a focused writing event each November where authors from all over the globe compete against themselves, but along with fellow authors, in groups, or on teams to write at least 50,000 words in 30 days. That means, scheduling the rest of my life around my writing for 30 days.
Easy? Probably not. It means I have to write at least about 1667 words each and every day. But, because my goal for my book it closer to 70,000 words, I’m aiming for 2000 words per day. I’ve already warned my husband that I’ll need his support. If necessary, he’s been given permission to drag me kicking and screaming to the computer, to plop me down in front of it, tie my hands to the keyboard (but not my fingers) and scream like a drill sergeant in my ear. “I SAID give me 2000.”
The house may not get cleaned, the kids may not get fed—and ssh—the French homework might not get done, but damn it, I’m going to get 50,000 words written even if it kills me…and it just might. I’ve got my idea, my main characters planned, even a very rough and high level outline all ready and rearing to go.
I start Boot Camp in a couple of weeks. I’m excited. Just think, I could have a completed novel (well, rough first draft) by December 1. And, since I’m almost finished the first rough draft of my other main project (my goal before end of October), I’ll actually have two novels ready for editing. Cool huh!
Ready to cheer me on? I’ll need all the encouragement I can get. Watch for my status posts on my Twitter account and lend me your support while I force a novel out of my brain and through my fingertips in 30 (very) short days.
23 days and counting…
I’ve been absent for a while, but now I remember why I used to love this site. Thank you, I’ll try and check back more frequently. How frequently you update your website?
Hi Haley. I try to update minimum once per month. I’d love to do it weekly, but I’m not quite there yet between the day job and the writing. I’m working my way up to more frequent updates though as I build my career and this site. Please do come back. Thank you for stopping by.
I just want to say I am just very new to blogging and seriously enjoyed your website. More than likely I’m planning to bookmark your site . You amazingly have outstanding articles and reviews. With thanks for sharing your web site.
Thank you Brice. I’m new to this whole thing too. It’s not easy trying to keep it up to date. Hope you check in again.
