Each week authors from all over and writing in all genres bring you snippets from their work. It could be a work in progress or a completed piece. It could be published or not. But it’s only 8 sentences.
Visit the previous snippet if you desire. This is from one of my current projects – A Legacy of Lies. Jacob is trying to find his missing sister. Elissa, Julia’s best friend is following Jacob, to help him. Jacob doesn’t want Elissa’s help because he knows it may be dangerous and doesn’t want her to get hurt. Of course, he hasn’t told her this, he simply told her to stay put. She doesn’t listen so well. In the following Jacob has stopped for gas and food and he’s heading back to his vehicle.
Ten minutes later, with a cold drink and a bag of chips in one hand, and a pre-wrapped sub in the other, Jacob left the building and headed back across the large parking lot towards his jeep, anxious to get back on the road, anxious to get closer to his sister, where ever she was. The need to close the distance before she disappeared again burned hot in his gut.
As he crossed the hot asphalt, dodging through a handful of parked cars and mini-vans, the drone of strained voices reached his ears. He slowed his steps, raised his face to the sky and inhaled. His keen sense of smell picked up a barrage of odors–somebody desperate for a bath, sweat, stale cigarette smoke and the pungent aroma of weed.
But it was another scent that stopped him in his tracks, and jacked up his heart rate. This one light, pleasant and familiar. With a heavy dose of fear.
Hope you’re enjoying the summer!
