Businesswoman by day, erotic romance writer by night, lover all the time.

I’d like to welcome Nikki Dee Houston today. Nikki writes erotic romance. Her upcoming release is All Fired Up.  AND she’s sharing a recipe.  And I have to admit…I peeked.  Yummy!  Oh, the recipe too… ;)

Tell us a little about yourself. How did you start writing?

Hi Anne. Firstly, thanks very much for having me here today. It’s a very exciting time for me – my debut release is due out on November 1st with Etopia Press.

imagesCAVG636QSo, who is Nikki Dee Houston? I’m a businesswoman by day, an erotic romance writer by night, and a lover all the time. I share a modest beach shack on a small island close to the mainland with my very own real-life hero, and our two cats.

I began writing seriously about three years ago, mainly short stories and women’s fiction, but I’d always wanted to write the ‘behind closed doors’ stuff. When I saw all the hype about readers wanting more erotic fiction, I played around with a few stories, finally settling on erotic romance. I believe that a strong romantic element, combined with an interesting storyline, is necessary for good erotic romance. Having said that, I don’t underestimate the expectations of readers for some hot and steamy scenes, and try to deliver on all counts.

Well, welcome to the erotic side, Nikki Dee!  You certainly sound like you have a busy life. So, what do you do when you’re not writing?

Well it’s rare for me to take a break from writing, but I love sailing our Hobie-Cat 18 around the usually calm waters near our island home. In fact, anything to do with water sports is often on the agenda.

Oh, I wish I lived on a beach.  It sounds so beautiful and tranquil for writing, well, when you’re not the business woman or the lover, that is ;)  What is the single most important part of writing for you?

The main thing I love about writing, is the creation of a situation that resonates with readers, giving them the “ooh, that happened to me!” feeling. In my stories, I insist on a plot line that is believable, characters who have human quirks and foibles, and a story that provides an enjoyable and fulfilling read right to the end.

I also tend to showcase women as equal contenders in professions or jobs that are usually male-dominated. The female character has to prove herself, yet also be feminine enough to be attracted by the hero – and attractive to him. She’s no wilting lily – she’s strong of mind and body – yet she also has a woman’s need for tenderness and respect.

Hmm…I wonder if I’ll get that kind of “ooh, that happened to me” with my next release?  Have you had a ménage lately?  :)  Tell us a bit about your upcoming release, All Fired Up. What inspired it? ( Silly question!  My bad. We’re talking HOT firemen here…duh ;) )

2010-3All Fired Up is set in a Fire Station. For any readers who love firefighter stories, this is for you! I plan on writing future books set in the firefighter sub-genre, but I’ve already written other books featuring other settings. Regardless of the setting or background of the story, my heroines will always be feisty, brave, strong and loveable – but the right hero is able to unlock her femininity, and expose the essence of who she is.

Here’s the blurb for All Fired Up.

Cindy always wanted to be a fire fighter. When she tops the class in the rookie academy, her first posting is the small but busy Hillwood Fire Station—and she’s their first female firefighter. For some of the crew, the thought of a woman in their male-dominated world is too much, and Cindy gets a hostile reception from some.

When Cindy comes face-to-face with a real-life fireman calendar pinup, she is stunned at how much better looking he is in person. Cindy’s no weakling, but even she finds herself gasping for breath when confronted by those bright green eyes.

fireman-04Only problem is—he’s her boss—Captain Dave Johnson.

Sparks fly both within Hillwood Fire Station, and in the dangerous spate of factory fires that the crew risk life and limb to control. Cindy’s ability to cut it with the men is on show to all, and she’s determined to not just keep up with them, but to excel as a firefighter.

Events turn nasty when a dark past comes back to haunt Cindy, jeopardizing her career before it’s even started, and she has to prove that she’s not just a pretty face. Fanning the flames of contempt, she faces danger head on, eventually earning the respect of the team.

Meanwhile, the fires aren’t the only thing smoldering. Cindy and Dave are irresistibly drawn to each other. Their sizzling hot attraction is enough to make Hillwood Fire Station spontaneously combust. The more they try to douse the flames, the hotter it burns. There’s enough heat at Hillwood to burn fiercely for a long time.

So, please tell us,  how can readers find out more about you and your books?

And finally, do you have any sure-fire tips for setting the scene for red-hot romance in your own life?

Ladies, I find that there are many things that need to be done to set the right mood. Lighting, music, what you wear, aromas such as essential oil candles, and the choice of food and drink. Try my recipe below – works for me every time. *wink*
